What is At-Home Pet Euthanasia?
At the root of the word 'Euthanasia,' are the Greek words ‘easy’ and ‘death.’ Our pets provide us with unconditional love and happiness, and as their guardians, we are the ones who are able to end their suffering. At-home euthanasia is the process of administering a dose of anesthesia that will help your pet fall asleep and then pass away peacefully, without pain or suffering, from the comfort of their home rather than a clinic.
When is euthanasia recommended?
When our pets are sick, and all of the efforts for increased palliative care—including tweaks to medication and day-to-day nursing—have been exhausted, it is often time to consider euthanasia. If a pet is suffering, and nothing will help alleviate their pain, end-of-life care is generally suggested.
Why choose euthanasia at home?
The final journey pet owners make to the vet can sometimes be an emotionally devastating one. The thought of putting an already uncomfortable animal in a car and then bringing them to a clinic, can trigger stress and grief during an already fragile time. Though hospitals are important places filled with wonderful and wonderfully dedicated doctors, they can also be noisy. Often there is a time limit patients are allotted.
At-home euthanasia can be a more gentle and compassionate alternative for your pet—a route that provides you with the opportunity to shape a more peaceful and tranquil environment in the space where your pet feels most relaxed and safest. Pet owners who choose at-home euthanasia are also able to take the time and space they need to grieve and say goodbye.
One of the most difficult decisions many pet owners face is deciding when is the right time. We’re here to support you through every step of the process.
